Jubilee 2025: A year to act on debt justice

A new toolkit to support action on debt justice over the course of 2025, linking to the Jubilee 2025 campaign and the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.

At a time when a total of 130 countries in the global south are critically indebted, and 3.3 billion people live in countries that spend more on interest payments than they do on health or education, 2025 presents a critical moment to challenge and transform debt injustice.

Two major events create this opportunity: First is the Catholic Church’s declaration of 2025 as a Jubilee year, which has given rise to the Jubilee 2025 debt justice campaign, and second, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Sevilla, Spain.

Together, these events offer pathways not only for debt cancellation in the global south, but also for the structural reforms needed to prevent future crises and establish fair and effective solutions to today’s debt crisis.

This toolkit can help you navigate debt justice campaigns over the course of 2025. In it you will find information on:

  • The debt crisis: new dimensions of an old problem
  • A new opportunity to put an end to the debt crisis
  • The Jubilee 2025 campaign
  • How to get involved
