International Monetary Fund Campaign Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a smart, energetic individual with background in campaigning on social and environmental justice to join our Ecological Justice Programme. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) project aims to ensure IMF investments support climate solutions and exclude fossil fuels. Recourse holds the IMF accountable for its investments through advocacy, research and convening of civil society, in collaboration with a broad range of organisations and local partners. The IMF Campaign Manager will focus on ensuring that IMF lending excludes all fossil fuels and prioritises climate projects, as a way of supporting countries to achieve a green recovery and meet Paris Agreement obligations. The campaign will also push for reform of damaging policies and practices and expose IMF investments which harm the environment and local communities.

The IMF Campaign Manager will be a vital member of our small team, working closely with allies and partners in the global north and south, and engaging with the IMF staff, management and member governments. S/he will collaborate with other Recourse campaigns and will report to Recourse’s Co-Director in charge of the IMF project.

This is an exciting and challenging role, involving work with southern partners, research, advocacy and international travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with allies and partners to campaign for IMF policies and practices that prioritise climate solutions and exclude fossil fuels, with a focus on IMF support to borrowing countries to achieve Paris Agreement goals.
  • Produce and commission high-quality advocacy, research, and communications materials.
  • Work with partners and allies to advocate with decision-makers at the IMF, including staff, management, and member governments.
  • Build collaborative relationships with civil society partners in the global north and south and help coordinate civil society engagement with the IMF, including hosting the CSO IMF coal network calls.
  • Organise events, meetings, panels and workshops, supporting southern partners to attend the IMF & World Bank Spring and Annual Meetings.
  • Assist in managing campaign budgets and support fundraising efforts.
  • May be required to manage additional staff in future for the campaign.

 QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 Essential:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Proven research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Proven experience of evidence-based policy work.
  • Familiarity with the IMF and/or other International Financial Institutions.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to environmental and social justice and human rights.
  • Experience with advocacy and campaigning.
  • Excellent team player, with good networking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Experience working with communities and civil society organisations, especially in supporting their linking of on-the-ground issues to national- and international-level change.
  • Willingness to help with logistical and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • Ability to travel up to 4 weeks per year.

 Desirable:

  • Understanding of fossil fuels and climate change issues, as well as Paris Agreement obligations.
  • Pro-active, with ability to reach out and engage with a diverse array of stakeholders, including civil society groups, anti-coal and pro-climate communities, IMF decision makers and shareholders, with a key focus in Europe and the US. Existing contacts in the international climate/IFI watching community a plus.
  • Experience working in the global south.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time salaried position. This is a one-year project-based position, renewable upon securing of additional funds during the course of the project. The gross salary will be in the range of 43,488 to 53,040 euros per year, per Recourse’s salary scale. Recourse offers outstanding benefits including generous annual leave with pay, travel insurance, pension, and a friendly work atmosphere with an international team.

LOCATION: Recourse works as a virtual team, with staff based in different countries around the world. All systems are on-line, so you would be expected to work remotely. Support for home-working on a pro rata basis, would be available.
