EU member states reluctant to end secretive ownership

In his latest blog, Nine United Nations Principles that can help Greece and the Eurozone in 2017, Eurodad analyst Tiago Stichelmans discusses Greece's ongoing debt crisis. Further agreement at the European level on measures to help Greece may be slow to come, and in the meantime the country faces ongoing austerity. While the international community should continue to discuss a debt workout mechanism for future crises, Greece's situation is urgent, and implementing the UN's nine principles for sovereign debt restructuring now could go a long way to finally finding a fair and sustainable solution to the crisis.

This briefing from Global Justice Now, “Inviting Scandal - DfID’s dangerous plans to expand its controversial private equity arm” (published last December), reviews recent investments by the CDC, the development finance arm of the UK Department for International Development, and shows how serious questions remain about its impact on poverty reduction. It shows that there is still little evidence to support its current development impact claims which are largely based on assumptions – rather than proof. It argues that dramatically increasing its size and influence is a premature and potentially dangerous move.

We are seeking a Communications Manager (Maternity Cover, March 2017 - January 2018), to lead Eurodad’s communications work. This means imple-menting our Communications Strategy and updating it if necessary. You will manage relationships with our key media contacts and will be responsible for making all of our external outputs as influential as possible. This will include devising and implementing outreach plans and ensuring that our outputs are read, understood and used by our target audiences. According to the latest briefing from Global Justice Now, many of the funds the CDC invest in are based in tax havens – 28 of CDC’s 38 new investments in funds since 2012 are located in Mauritius, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, and Luxembourg.
