Letter to European leaders on FfD4

The Fourth UN Financing for Development Conference (FfD4) comes at a critical time of rising inequality, climate emergency, and debt distress. The conference will take place in Sevilla, Spain, in late June, and is the first FfD on European soil. It is also an historic opportunity. Multilateralism is under attack and Europe has the chance to support an outcome agreement that paves the way for fair, inclusive, and democratic global economic governance, not a defence of a broken status quo.

We invite civil society organisations, academics, development experts and practitioners in Europe and around the world to unite in a call to European countries to align with progressive global voices calling for reforms in sovereign debt resolution, international tax cooperation, and public financing for sustainable development. European leaders should support an outcome that will uphold human development and a gender-just centred agenda for international financial architecture reform.

European governments must engage in good faith and align with global efforts toward democratic and equitable economic governance. Failure to act risks entrenching existing imbalances and undermining Europe’s credibility as a partner committed to global development and human rights.

Sign on to support a fairer global financial system.
