World Debt Figures 2015

The Committee for the Abolition of Third World Debt (CADTM) has been working tirelessly since 1990 to demonstrate the relationship between debt and the inability of the world’s economic system to secure even the most basic rights for hundreds of millions of people around the world. 

The 2015 edition of CADTM’s flagship report World Debt Figures gives a comprehensive overview of the current state of debt, both in the global south and north. It looks at the quantity and legitimacy of debt, and its origins since the 1980s. It also analyses the interactions between debt and the structural adjustment policies imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, as well as looking at how poverty and inequality are the drivers as well as the consequences of indebtedness. In doing so, the report unveils how debt is a mechanism for transferring wealth, and an instrument of political and economic domination.
