Taking place in Brussels on 9-10 June at Les Ateliers des Tanneurs, 2022 Eurodad’s Conference will bring together our members, allies, partners and like-minded academics in an inspirational and interactive setting. Through thought-provoking inputs, and careful facilitation, Eurodad is convening this space for the economic justice movement to analyse, strategise and organise. 

The event will have a limited capacity of people physically present, with virtual participation via social media, live streaming and video messages.

Addressing an almost empty hall of the UN General Assembly in September 2020, the UN Secretary General issued an ominous warning that Covid-19 was a dress rehearsal for a world of challenges to come. Three years into the pandemic, the world is steeped in multiple and interconnected crises: of climate change, debt, energy-scarcity and competition for other scarce but crucial resources for development. Against this backdrop, growing inequality and the irreversible breakdowns of the ecological system mean that women, children, youth, indigenous peoples and those who face discrimination on the basis of gender, race, disability, migrant-status etc. are hit the hardest.

At the same time, thanks to the efforts of civil society and social movements, including young people’s organised pressure for climate action, there is growing popular awareness of the climate emergency, the importance of public investment in health care and other social services.

Global economic governance has so far not been very effective in supporting the global south’s ability to deal with and plan its recovery from the pandemic while grappling with climate chaos. Whether in the area of debt and tax justice or development finance, the economic justice movement has played an important role in drawing attention to the problems and advocating for concrete policy change within institutions still steeped in patriarchy and colonialism.
