Who profits from the Global Gateway? The EU’s new strategy for development cooperation

This week we launched a report with Counter Balance and Oxfam, which analyses in detail the Global Gateway, the EU’s new global investment and development strategy. Our report dives deep into the question: is the Global Gateway advancing the EU's foreign policy and corporate interests at the expense of real development in its partner countries?

Join Eurodad and partners at the CSPF and WBG/ IMF Annual Meetings 2024

Eurodad staff will join members and partners at the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings, in Washington DC between 21 and 26 October 2024.

Despite the increased pressure to reform a global financial architecture that is no longer fit for purpose, the responses of both institutions are either absent or in the wrong direction. Eurodad will be calling out the ineffectiveness of action to tackle the debt crisis that is consuming many of the world's poorest countries, making the case for discussions to move to the UN, while also emphasising the urgency of debt cancellation. We will also expose the multiple failings of the new plans of the World Bank to recast itself to respond to new challenges as a follow up to its so-called Evolution Roadmap.

In the link below you will find a range of events co-organised by Eurodad, including those in which our staff will appear on panels. Follow us on X/Twitter @eurodad.

Year one of World Bank Paris Agreement alignment in the energy sector: ‘green conditionality’ dwarfs green investments

by Bretton Woods Project

This new briefing reviews all 71 ‘energy & extractives’ projects financed by IDA and IBRD in the fiscal year 2024, and looks at what Paris alignment means for the World Bank’s direct financing in the energy sector. Its findings suggest that the World Bank’s approach to Paris alignment is being used to a significant extent to impose ‘green conditionalities' on borrowing countries, especially in the global south.

FfD4: Strategies for civil society engagement in the MENA region

by MenaFem

This webinar aimed at demystifying the FfD process for civil society in the MENA region and highlighting pathways for meaningful engagement in the lead-up to the fourth UN Financing for Development Conference (FfD4). The goal was to build the knowledge and capacity of feminist movements and broader civil society in the region, enabling them to actively participate and advocate for gender-just financing solutions at global and regional platforms.
